What you can expect
- A240 and A480 must be read together: A240 fixes chemistry and mechanicals, A480 fixes finish class and dimensional tolerance. Quoting A240 alone leaves no basis for a finish dispute.
- Thickness 0.3–60 mm, width up to 2000 mm; coil, sheet, plate, circle and slit strip all to the same standard.
- Certificate judged to A240 with heat number; intergranular corrosion (A262 Practice E) and hardness tests can be added on request.
Frequently asked
For cold-formed, non-welded parts yes. For welded structures use 304L — 304 precipitates chromium carbides in the heat-affected zone and becomes chromium-depleted there; 304L (C ≤ 0.03%) largely avoids it.
A240 covers sheet, strip and coil; A276 covers bar. We supply sheet, coil and circles to A240; bar to A276 is available through our partner mill.
